Subtypes of Granulocytes-


  • Neutrophils- fight with bacterial and fungal infections.
  • Basophils- it is directly related to the immune system responses. Although their exact function isn’t well known.
  • Eosinophils- fight with parasitic infections.
  • Monocytes- It breaks down and excludes foreign organisms and dying cells from the body.
  • Lymphocytes- builds up the immune system.
Platelets- It is also known as thrombocytes. It is a colorless fluid which controls the bleeding and responsible for blood clotting. As clotting of blood is extremely important to stop the flow of blood. They make up less than 1% of your blood. The lifespan of platelets is about 9 to 12 days.
Plasma- The yellow fluid present in the blood is known as plasma. It holds all of the blood cells. It makes up about 55% of your total blood. This yellow fluid transports important things throughout the body such as- minerals, medications, water, nutrients, hormones, etc. It also carries waste products to your kidneys which are filtered through the kidneys. This is made up of water, protein, lipids (fats), and hormones.
